This Is Buzz

“This Is Buzz” is an experiential immersive documentary directed by Mark Pellington examining the radical impact and lasting relevance of Buzz, the groundbreaking MTV current-affairs series that aired in 1990. Built as a sonic mosaic and visual collage, the original series fused documentary truth, music-video velocity, and global perspectives into an immersive editorial experience that collapsed journalism, culture, and identity into a new media language. Featuring insights from cultural figures and artists connected to the series, including U2’s The Edge and Adam Clayton, the film examines how “Buzz” anticipated the fragmented, hyperlinked way audiences now consume information. Originally hosted by RuPaul in his first recurring TV role, the series presented voices from around the world mixing well-known thinkers with unknown contributors.
